5473 - I think you have to carefully do a litlte of both but that’s just scratching the surface. To put a litlte different slant on this, I think advertisers shifting their buying behavior and are becoming less and less about buying audience and more about buying relationships. Just look at plethora of new tools available to measure clout, reputation, effectiveness, impact and oooh the dreaded word, engagement. I know I'm using these criteria to buy media now. We’re being chosen based on more than just how big our, ahem… audience is. What I’ve found on the front line of building audience is that the tighter you hold on, the more life you squeeze out of your relationship with them. I think you have to be smart enough to convince your audience to come to you digs, but you only can do that when you have a relationship with them that takes place both on and off your field. Networks, social media, partnerships etc…help you become greater than the sum of your parts by providing new channels to interact with your audience and reinforce your brand. The more engagement you have, the better your brand is for it, and our brand, that is something we can control and monetize. BTW: Nice post.
